Myofascial release in Blandford, Dorset

Myofascial release is not strictly a massage technique and there is no oil used although massage can be combined with the technique where appropriate.

“Myo” means muscle and “fascia” refers to the band of connective tissue which binds and hold the whole body together including the skin, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and organs. There are 3 layers to this tissue being elastin, collagen and ground substance. Regular massage only affects the top two. The beauty of this technique is that by applying pressure and holding each hand position for 5 minutes or more, we can influence the third layer or ground substance and release restrictions in that which cause referred pain in other areas of the body. It can be used to treat neck, shoulder and lower back pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, IBS, plantar fasciitis, hip pain, knee pain, foot or ankle pain, tennis elbow, suprapinatus tendonitis, bladder problems, bulging discs, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical and lumbar injuries, chronic fatigue syndrome, cystitis, scoliosis, trigeminal neuralgia and any chronic pain conditions caused by accident, injury, overuse or postural problems.

It is a very effective technique for alleviating pain and relieving a number of aggravating conditions.
